Week 1:The Legend of Qu Yuan (屈原), and the Dragon Boat Festival

Qu Yuan was a very handsome and famous Chinese poet who had a deep love for his country and was appreciated by it.Qu Yuan wrote many poems for his country and was also a politician.However the king did not like him and exiled him over speculated disloyalty.Also, the King rejected Qu yaun proposol of a strategic alliance to the Qin, a rival state, which attacked an the kingdom was destroyed.

Qu Yuan became very sad and killed himself in the Miluo river . To feed his water spirit, the his suppporters dropped rice into the water.They later had to wrap the rice in a leaf so the "dragons"(large catfish) would not eat them. This is known as zongzi.

They also hold an annual Dragon Boat Festival in which peopel race on Boats decorated to look like dragon and make moise to scare away the fish

Week 3: How to make Traditional Chinese Spring Rolls

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

Step 2:Assemble your Spring Rolls

  1. Grab a piece of rice paper and submerge in the water for no longer than 5 seconds
  2. Lay your rice paer on a smooth flat surface being careful not to rip the paper
  3. Begin tp fill a small area in the center with your desired fillings, being careful not overfill it
  4. Fold two of the rice paper's sides tightly in towards the center, allowing them to overlap a little
  5. Roll the remaining Rice Paper over the filling until it forms a cylinder shape

Step 3:Plate and Enjoy!
